Underwater Tutorial

To accomplish this, select the Rocks layer.  In the Objects:Floater List palette click on the Mask Icon.  The Mask List palette appears.  Select the Rocks Mask Bar, it will turn Blue with the Eye icon closed (25).  If you click on the Eye the rocks image will become a Black and White image (26).  We can edit the mask with the Eye open or closed. With the Eye open we can see how much rock to remove.

The color Black will add to the mask and White will remove parts of the mask.  Select White as your Primary Color.  I use the Airbrush tool with the Feather Tip variant.  In the Contols:Brush palette change the Size to 2.0.  Paint out the bottom of the rocks revealing the sand underneath.  You can fill in between rocks, or make it appear as though they are poking up thru the sand. Experiment with this to achieve almost any look you want.  Before (27) and after (28) examples.
